AC Milan v Pisa will be back at San Siro in 2025/26, making us think of challenges like the one in the 1990/91 season. The match was originally scheduled for 10 December but it was moved to 23 January because AC Milan, just a few days before, won the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo, beating Olimpia Asunción 3-0. In the league, against Pisa, Massaro secured a win in a hard-fought contest. Let's prepare for the game by looking back at the history of AC Milan v Pisa with our Time Machine.

On 23 January 1991, Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan were hosting Pisa to make up for the missed game on Matchday 12. The Rossoneri, who won the world title in Japan, were looking for important points in staying in sight of leaders Sampdoria. The first half was played at a reasonable pace, with AC Milan trying to impose their play style made up of high pressing and quick passing against a well-organised Pisa side who were compact in the midfield. The visitors defended with order and they tried to make a mark, but Simeone and Padovano couldn't get the better of an attentive Pazzagli. However, it was the Rossoneri who got in front in the 20th minute: the ball came in from the left and after some shaky defending, Daniele Massaro, with a bicycle kick, beat keeper Simoni. It was an important goal that broke the deadlock in a largely tactical game.

After the break, AC Milan controlled the game with their ball possession and in the defensive phase. Pisa tried to get up the pitch but they never really threatened the Rossoneri goal. Towards the end, the defence made sure to close the spaces: both Baresi and Costacurta were impeccable in reading the game. At the final whistle, the Rossoneri took precious points in their Scudetto charge with a win worth its weight in gold. It was a key win to get back going in the league after the hard graft in Tokyo, proving the strength and winning mentality of a legendary team.
