TIME MACHINE: LAZIO v AC MILAN

After the trip to face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, AC Milan have another fixture away from San Siro. On matchday four of the Serie A 2026/27 season, the Rossoneri head to the capital to take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, the scene of several memorable AC Milan victories over the Biancocelesti. One of the most recent came in March 2024, and today's Time Machine takes us back to that evening, when Noah Okafor struck the late winner.

During the 2023/24 season, the Swiss forward carved out a reputation as a game-changer. He had already made his mark on several occasions after coming off the bench, and at the Olimpico he delivered another crucial contribution, further establishing himself as one of Stefano Pioli's most effective weapons late in games. That matchday 27 encounter was anything but routine; it was an intense, hard-fought contest with plenty at stake from the very first whistle.

The first key moment of the match came in the 14th minute, when a defensive mix-up between Maignan and Florenzi almost proved costly as Castellanos lurked. Despite creating a few good chances, AC Milan produced a subdued display in a first half that ended goalless. The incident that would change the course of the game came after the restart, as Pellegrini was shown a second yellow card, leaving Sarri's side down to ten men for over half an hour.

The introduction of fresh legs raised the tempo and intensity, setting up a thrilling finale. Leão thought he had broken the deadlock (76') after latching onto a fine pass from Reijnders, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. The Rossoneri did find the decisive breakthrough in the 88th minute. After a long passing move, Okafor fired past Provedel after initially being denied by the Lazio goalkeeper, scoring his fifth goal of the season and once again making the difference. The hosts were reduced to eight men in stoppage time as AC Milan returned to winning ways and boosted their push for Champions League qualification.
