LEÃO GETS AN ASSIST, KALULU AND IBRA GO WELL

Rafa gets on in the final minutes as Portugal beat Turkey, Ibra's Sweden are also into the play-off final

Rafael Leão didn't get many minutes but made a telling contribution as Portugal beat Turkey 3-1 and booked their spot in Tuesday's World Cup play-off final. Coming on in the 88th minute to replace Otávio, who scored Portugal's first goal, the Rossoneri's number 17 provided a splendid assist for Matheus Nunes to seal the deal against a resolute Turkey side. On Tuesday, however, it will not be a Portugal-Italy final - as was widely predicted - at the Dragão on Tuesday given that the Azzurri lost 1-0 to North Macedonia in Palermo. Alessandro Florenzi played the full 90 and had a good game, rescuing his side on numerous occasions. Sandro Tonali, meanwhile, got 13 minutes at the end. The European champions will, therefore, miss out on their second consecutive World Cup and will instead play a friendly against Turkey on Tuesday.

Leão will not, however, be the only AC Milan in the play-off finals for the tournament in Qatar. Sweden, who were without the suspended Ibrahimović, beat the Czech Republic 1-0 thanks to a goal in extra time from former Palermo man Robin Quaison. The Swedes travel to Chorzów on Thursday to take on Poland. It was a good evening for Pierre Kalulu too as the youngster played the full 90 in France U21's 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands in qualifying for EURO 2023. Les Bleus are currently top of Group H with 19 points from seven games and look set to qualify.
