    France booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought victory over Paraguay, a second-half penalty proving enough to separate the sides in Philadelphia. Kylian Mbappé converted from the spot to score his seventh goal of the tournament, drawing level with Lionel Messi. Mike Maignan started in goal and kept his second consecutive clean sheet, as well as his third in five matches at the tournament. Adrien Rabiot also featured from the start, lining up alongside Koné following Tchouaméni's injury. France will now face Morocco for a place in the semi-finals, with the match set for Thursday 9 July at 22:00 CEST in Foxborough, Boston.
