The City of Milano today honored Franco Baresi, AC Milan's legendary Captain, by inscribing his name in the Famedio at the Monumental Cemetery, a memorial dedicated to the figures who have shaped the city's history and identity.
The ceremony, led by Mayor Giuseppe Sala and City Council President Elena Buscemi, took place in the presence of Franco Baresi's family and AC Milan Legend and Brand Ambassador Daniele Massaro, representing the Club. Baresi was honored alongside 13 other distinguished figures, recognizing both his extraordinary achievements on the pitch and the values he represented to generations of supporters and the wider Milan community.
Born in Travagliato, near Brescia, Franco Baresi devoted his life to AC Milan and the city of Milano from a young age. He played a defining role in one of the greatest eras in football history. The Club retired his number 6 shirt in his honor and celebrated his 50 years with AC Milan in 2024. He had served as Honorary Vice President since 2020.
Others honored this year include Ornella Vanoni, a devoted Rossoneri supporter, Bruno Pizzul, Giovanni Gastel and Don Antonio Mazzi, alongside prominent figures from Milano's cultural and civic life.
Since December 2024, as part of the Club's 125th anniversary celebrations, the Famedio's Crypt has also been the final resting place of AC Milan founder Herbert Kilpin, alongside other figures who have shaped the city's history, including Giuseppe Meazza, Giorgio Gaber, Enzo Jannacci and Alda Merini.
The tribute to Franco Baresi goes far beyond football. It reflects the deep bond between AC Milan and Milano, a city whose history, social fabric and cultural identity the Club has helped shape for more than 125 years.
