A frustrating evening all round, even before the equaliser and the final whistle. There were negative signals almost right from the off, with Donnarumma and Paquetá both forced off with injuries. Overall, Milan were not at their best on matchday 30 at San Siro in Serie A, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a gritty Udinese side. The Rossoneri really could’ve and should’ve done better, especially after Piatek’s opener in the 44th minute – his seventh league goal in a Milan shirt. The game’s final strike was scored in the 64th minute, with Lasagna bagging on the break. While our performance was not lacking desire, we were missing conviction and a killer instinct in front of goal. We also conceded far too many chances to the opposition, an indicator of the tough spell that we’re currently going through. Milan must now recover as soon as possible. This evening’s game was played out in front of almost 50,000 fans, as the Diavolo remain in fourth place after this latest point with the race still on for Champions League qualification.
THE REPORT
With the Rossoneri starting with two strikers for a change, it didn’t take long for them to nearly link up on Tuesday, although Piatek’s ball for Cutrone was just beyond him. After a fairly tricky start, Milan soon began to pick up the pace and Paquetá fired a wicked shot just wide in the 22nd minute. Three minutes later Cutrone was involved once again, forcing a strong save from Musso. Come the 44th minute, we finally made the breakthrough – unsurprisingly through lovely link-up play up front. Patrick was the man to put in the cross before Piatek then headed home after his first effort was saved. The second-half started in a fairly sluggish manner, with no real chances registered until the 64th minute. Sadly, this was Udinese’s equaliser. Fofana was the man released on the counter-attack, who then rolled it across to Lasagna who fired past Reina. Udinese threatened once again in the 70th minute with De Maio heading wide before Lasagna then also missed the target. Milan eventually went in in search of a winner as the final whistle drew nearer, first through Castillejo who shot straight at Musso and then Romagnoli who was also kept out by the opposition shot-stopper. The final chance of the game nearly fell to De Paul, although Calhanoglu was able to intervene.
