LEÃO WITH A LATE LEVELLER AGAINST GENOA

Rafa rescues a point for the Rossoneri in stoppage time after Colombo's opener

AC Milan played out a 1-1 draw with Genoa at San Siro on Serie A matchday 19. The Rossoneri were left trailing after Lorenzo Colombo opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Then, despite their total territorial domination and the many chances created, the hosts only equalised in stoppage time, thanks to a Rafael Leão header. This result sees AC Milan stay in second place, as they now have 39 points. Allegri's men maintained their unbeaten run in the league, but a draw is tough to take given the sheer amount of chances created.

The Rossoneri, however, showed plenty of determination and team spirit, despite the difficulties faced throughout the match. Allegri's men tried to impose themselves from the outset, but they came up against a resolute Genoa defence. The second-half substitutions, including Loftus-Cheek and Füllkrug, gave the team a boost, as they netted in injury time through Leão. Although it might not be the desired result, this is a performance to build on for the Rossoneri. The aim is to be a bit more clinical and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

In the seventh minute, Gabbia came close with a header, but Leali produced a superb save to deny him. However, Genoa took the lead in the 28th minute, with Colombo expertly finishing a Malinovskyi assist. The Rossoneri tried to hit back straight away, creating chances through Pulisic and Leão, but couldn’t find the net. The first half ended 1-0 to Genoa, despite AC Milan’s strong play and numerous opportunities.

In the second half, the Rossoneri continued to push in search of an equaliser, with Allegri’s substitutions injecting fresh energy into the team. In the 58th minute, Pulisic had a goal ruled out by VAR for handball, but the Rossoneri didn’t give up. Chances kept coming, with Leali making several crucial saves. In stoppage time, AC Milan finally found a deserved equaliser, as Leão headed home from a corner. Genoa had a golden opportunity to win it from the penalty spot, but Stanciu sent it over the bar, meaning it finished 1-1. Despite the draw, AC Milan showed plenty of character and determination, qualities that will be key in the matches to come.
