    Serie AMay 17th 2026

The 38th and final game of Serie A in 2025/26 ended 2-1 to Cagliari. Saelemaekers opened the scoring after only two minutes, but it wasn't enough for AC Milan to beat the Sardinian side. The guests scored either side of half-time (through Borrelli and Rodríguez) to claim all three points at San Siro. Following this result, the Rossoneri finish the season on 70 points and have been made to pay for a late dip in results to conclude the campaign. AC Milan miss out on Champions League qualification for next season, but they will make their European return following a one-year absence as they will take part in the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League.

AC Milan took the lead after around 100 seconds: Tomori's ball over the top was knocked on by Gimenez, and Saelemaekers finished past Caprile to make it 1-0. Cagliari equalised in the 20th minute through Borrelli, who reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box. After late first-half efforts from Nkunku, Fofana and Gimenez, Cagliari went ahead twelve minutes into the second half. From a free-kick, Maignan reacted well to Borrelli's effort but could do nothing to stop Rodríguez's header on the follow-up. The Rossoneri tried to respond as Pulisic and Athekame, both on from the bench, threatened, while Leão drove forward and set up Rabiot, who failed to hit the target. At the other end, Maignan kept AC Milan in the game as Cagliari countered, most notably denying Mendy in a one-on-one. The scoreline did not change: Cagliari left San Siro with a 2-1 win.
