Luka Jović only recently entered the Rossoneri world. The forward, born in 1997, arrived on the final day of the transfer window to reinforce Pioli’s offensive options. Whilst we wait to see him on the pitch, get to know him with some facts and anecdotes about the Serbian forward.

    CHILDHOOD AND HIS DAD MILAN
Jović’s childhood, born in Loznica but growing up in Bjebljin, Bosnia, was not the most fortunate. However, Luka always knew he could count on his dad Milan Jović, also an ex-professional footballer. To get to training, in Sarajevo, and guarantee him a future in the squad, his dad never let him down, often travelling a round 200km. From his dad Milan to AC Milan, via long journeys and away days in the car, it’s evident just how much it was worth the effort.

    HIS ADMIRATION FOR ZLATAN
Like many Serbian footballers, Luka Jović has always admired the class, elegance, and infinite quality of Zlatan Ibrahimović. Luka never hid it, publicly praising the Swedish player on many occasions and affirming in multiple interviews that he sees him as a true idol. Another inspiration to the 1997-born forward has always been Radamel Falcao, so much so that he’s been nicknamed the “Serbian Falcao” in his home country.

    PREDESTINED DEBUT
On his first appearance, after a long apprenticeship in the youth sector, he made his senior debut with Red Star Belgrade and broke a record. On 18 May 2013, at the age of 16 years, 5 months and 5 days he came on as a substitute and scored. It wasn’t just any old goal, but the goal that allowed the squad to draw 3-3 with Vojvodina, getting them the point necessary to win the title. Jović also became the youngest player to score in the history of the club, a record previously held by Dejan Stanković.

    SERBIA AND RED STAR
Serbian like Nole Djoković, a big Rossoneri supporter, and like just one player to come before him. The only Serbian player to wear the AC Milan jersey before Lika was, in fact, Marko Lazetić, who also shares a history with Jović at Red Star Belgrade. Another Serbian sat in the dug out for AC Milan in 2015/16: Siniša Mihajlović.

    GOALSCORERS IN EUROPE
As for skills and on-field position, Luka is similar to current number 9 Olivier Giroud. The two goalscorers have already shown their quality on the European stage, and in the 2018/29 season, went head to head for the spot of highest goalscorer in the Europa League. Jović was right behind Olivier, with 10 goals to his 11, Giroud later winning the trophy with Chelsea. The two players would face off in the semi-final: Luka opened the scoring in the 1-1 away in Frankfurt, and scored again in the 1-1 return leg, Loftus-Cheek scored for the blues who went on to win on penalties.
