A big, and perhaps more importantly, well-deserved victory which showed an AC Milan side who were lively in terms of fitness and solid in their mentality. Evidence of this came in the Rossoneri’s immediate reaction after Lecce’s equaliser at the start of the second half. A quick one-two (from Bonaventura and Rebić) which re-established control and killed off the game, ensuring that all three points travelled back to Milan. A game where Pioli’s side were always in control, something shown by these eight numbers from tonight’s game at the Stadio Via del Mare in Lecce. Here they are:
- AC Milan scored with four different players in the same Serie A game for the first time since May 2018 (in a 5-1 win over Fiorentina).
- AC Milan have scored an average of 2.7 goals per game in their last seven league games against Lecce.
- Hakan Çalhanoğlu has been directly involved in six Serie A goals this season, four of these coming against Lecce (one goal, three assists).
- Ante Rebić has scored seven goals in his last eight Serie A appearances: he netted none in his previous eight for the Rossoneri.
- Giacomo Bonaventura scored his first Serie A goal from inside the box since September 2018 (against Atalanta); his last three goals since then had all come from outside of the area.
- Today was Jack Bonaventura’s 150th start for AC Milan in all competitions.
- Samu Castillejo got back on the scoresheet in Serie A 429 days after his last goal in the competition (April 2019, against Parma): this goal came after 25 shots (six on target) in the current league campaign.
- Tonight, AC Milan recorded eleven shots on target in a single Serie A game for the first time since February 2019 (eleven against Cagliari).
