It’s time for Europe again. The Rossoneri are set to return to Europa League action against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the third qualifying round this evening. It’ll be the first ever meeting between the two sides, who will be facing each other in a straight knockout tie. Here are nine facts that you need to know ahead of the showdown:
- AC Milan and Bodø/Glimt are set to come up against each other for the first time. The Rossoneri have met a Norwegian side before, namely Rosenborg in the group stage of the 1996/97 Champions League. Back then AC Milan won 4-1 away and lost 2-1 at home.
- In 29 previous encounters against Norwegian clubs in UEFA competitions, Italian teams have always managed to score (58 in total), winning 21 of those games (D5, L3).
- Bodø/Glimt have lost five of the six matches (W1) they’ve played against Italian sides in Europe. Their only victory came in September 1994, when they recorded a 3-2 first-leg victory over Sampdoria in the first round of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
- AC Milan are unbeaten in 15 matches in all competitions (W11, D4). It’s the Rossoneri’s longest unbeaten run since November 2008, back when Carlo Ancelotti was in the dugout (16).
- AC Milan have won all five of their Europa League qualifying games, also keeping five clean sheets in the process (twelve goals scored).
- Out of the 21 Europa League/Champions League qualifying matches that they’ve played, the Rossoneri have only lost on one occasion: against Slovan Liberec in 2002/03 (W18, D2).
- AC Milan have scored for eight matches in a row in Europe. Taking into account the UEFA Cup and Champions League, the Diavolo haven’t done better (nine successive games) since 2009.
- Taking into account all competitions, Lorenzo Colombo could become the youngest AC Milan player (18 years and 200 days) to score since M'Baye Niang found the net against Reggina in the Coppa Italia in December 2012.
- Hakan Çalhanoğlu has managed to both score and provide an assist in four of his last eight matches for AC Milan in all competitions, including during the second qualifying round of this season’s Europa League.
