10 FACTS ON AC MILAN V INTER

The main statistics surrounding the Rossoneri's matchday 23 fixture

A top of the table derby in the second half of the season, the likes of which we haven’t seen for a decade. A fixture to get back on track, at the end of an intense week with away trips to La Spezia and Belgrade. The stage is set for the matchday 23 derby between Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan and Antonio Conte’s Inter: as we await kick-off at 15:00 CET, here are some facts and statistics surrounding the match.

HEAD TO HEAD
1 – This will be the 174th Milan Derby in Serie A: the Nerazzurri have won on 66 occasions (including four out of the last five matches), compared to 52 wins for the Rossoneri, and there have been 55 draws.

2 – AC Milan can win both games in a single Serie A season against Inter for the second time in the last 15 years: previously they did so in 2010/11, 1-0 in the first round and 3-0 in the second round. April 2, 2011 also represents the most recent occasion when AC Milan and Inter met in Serie A with both teams occupying the top two places in the standings.

CURRENT FORM
3 – Inter (50) and AC Milan (49) have together collected 99 points this season, 16 greater than last season after 22 games played. At this point in the season, the only occasion when the combined points total was greater was in 1950/51 (102, always counting three points per victory)

4 – AC Milan have not lost two league games in a row since November 2019, when they lost to Lazio and Juventus.

GENERAL STATS
5 – AC Milan (24 years and 196 days) are the team with the lowest average age this season, between starters and substitutes.

6 – AC Milan have found the net with 13 different Goalscorers this season, only Atalanta (15) can boast more.

PLAYER FOCUS
7 - Gianluigi Donnarumma could become the youngest player to reach the landmark of 200 Serie A appearances in the era of three points per win: at 21 years and 361 days he would shatter the previous record set by Gianluigi Buffon (24 years, 83 days). The next will also be his 100th victory in the top flight.

8- Zlatan Ibrahimović has scored 10 goals in the Milan Derby in all competitions. Eight of these have come with AC Milan: since his debut with this shirt in 2010/11 he is the Rossonero who has scored the most goals against a single opponent. Furthermore, only three other players have reached double digits for goals scored in the ‘Derby della Madonnina’ in the top flight: Giuseppe Meazza (12), Gunnar Nordahl (11) and Stefano Nyers (11).

9- The next match will be Zlatan Ibrahimović’s 250th appearance in Serie A: so far the oldest player on the day of this milestone among those who made their debut in the era of three points per win was Andrea Cossu (37 years and 233 days).
