COPPA ITALIA: 7 FACTS ON INTER v AC MILAN

Inter and AC Milan are set to face off again. With the long-awaited return leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final just hours away, it’s now time to discover the most interesting facts and figures relating to tonight’s Derby showdown.

1- Inter and AC Milan are set to play each other for the 27th time in the Coppa Italia. There have been ten Rossoneri wins, eight Nerazzurri victories and eight draws in the 26 previous encounters.  

2- AC Milan have either progressed to the next round or won the trophy in five of their eight Coppa Italia meetings with Inter in the knockout stages.

3- AC Milan are have gone three games without defeat to Inter in all competitions (W1, D2). Their ten-game unbeaten streak that lasted until April 2005 was the last time they did better than this against their cross-city rivals.

4- For the 14th time in history, Inter and AC Milan will face each other four times in a single season. The last time they did so was in 2004/05, when AC Milan recorded three wins (the other match ended in a draw). In seven of the previous 13 instances, the Rossoneri went unbeaten in each of the four encounters.

5- AC Milan have lost just one of their last nine Coppa Italia matches (W4, D4). Their only defeat was against Inter in the quarter-finals last season.

6- None of the last 28 derby goals (in all competitions) have been scored by an Italian player. The last time this happened was on 27 December 2017, when Patrick Cutrone found the net in the Coppa Italia. That day, his 104th-minute finish secured the Rossoneri’s spot in the semi-finals of the competition.

7- Following his brace against Inter in the league, Olivier Giroud is just one goal away from drawing level with Jean-Pierre Papin as the Frenchman with the most goals in the Milan derby in all competitions (three).
