AC MILAN v NAPOLI: FUN FACTS

Rossoneri stats ahead of the first leg of the Quarter-finals

The Rossoneri return to San Siro for the first leg of the all-Italian Champions League quarter-finals. Opposing Coach Pioli's side will be Luciano Spalletti's Napoli, whom they have already met twice in the league, for a match ready to play out its third act of the season - this time in Europe. Here are the main stats and facts ahead of the match, scheduled for Wednesday 12 April at 21:00 CEST.

TRICOLOUR CLASH
The match at San Siro will be the first meeting between AC Milan and Napoli in a European competition. To date, the Rossoneri have recorded four wins in Italian derbies in Europe, completing the tally with four draws and one defeat. Napoli, on the other hand, have recorded one win and one defeat against other Italian sides in European competition - in the double-header against Juventus dating back to the 1988/89 UEFA Cup. Overall, AC Milan v Napoli will be Italian derby number 18 on the European stage.

EUROPEAN BACKGROUND
AC Milan have reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2011/12, when they were eliminated by Guardiola's Barcelona. The last time they made it through to the semi-finals was in 2006/07, when they last won the competition by beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals: 2-2 in the first leg at San Siro and 2-0 at home to the Bavarians. Napoli, on the other hand, reached the Champions Cup/Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

CUP FORM
The Rossoneri are unbeaten in their last five meetings in cup competitions against the Azzurri (3W, 2D) - the most recent was 2-0 in the Coppa Italia in 2019. It's a different story in the league, however, with Napoli having won all of their last three away fixtures at home to AC Milan, achieving their best ever personal streak against the Rossoneri.

FROM DEFENCE TO ATTACK
AC Milan have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four Champions League matches. The last time the Rossoneri went five or more games without conceding a goal in European competition was in 2004-05, when they reached the final. On the offensive side, Olivier Giroud has scored four goals in this Champions League with AC Milan - the last player to score at least five in a single edition of the club competition was Zlatan Ibrahimović in 2011/12 (5). The Azzurri's top scorers in this edition are also on four goals: Victor Osimhen, Piotr Zieliński, Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori.

ITALIAN COACHES
Stefano Pioli and Luciano Spalletti will also face each other in a European competition for the first time in their coaching careers. In total, after the elimination of Antonio Conte's Tottenham by AC Milan, there are four Italian coaches still in the running in the competition (50%): Pioli, Ancelotti, Inzaghi and Spalletti.
