Women’s football in Italy was given a real boost this summer thanks to the National Team’s exploits at the World Cup. Four years prior, Lady Andrade scored at the World Cup for Colombia. Now the incredibly technically gifted Colombian is officially an AC Milan player. The former Atletico Nacional spearhead has arrived a different Milan side compared to last season. The Coach is different with Maurizio Ganz now in charge and there’s a new captain in Valentina Giacinti. It’s a time of development and renovation.
There is already a solid base as was demonstrated in the 2-0 win over Cittadella despite four players being away on Italy duty. Not just Giacinti, but Laura Fusetti, Linda Tucceri and Valentina Bergamaschi also. Lady Patrica Andrade Rodriguez has now come in to contribute with her skill but also to bring her experience and personality to the side.
The Women’s Team has a large number of players who are regularly playing at an international level. Along with the four Azzurre players, Maria Korenciova, Monica Mendes, Sandra Žigić, Dominika Čonč and Nora Heroum are playing at the pinnacle of the game. Milan will be up against many strong opponents and not just Juventus, Fiorentina or Roma as Inter are also now in the league.
Ganz and his players are working very intensely and with a great sense of confidence about what the team can achieve. The solid nature of the plans for Milan’s Women’s Side are further demonstrated by the fact that Lady Andrade was eager to join last season but waited for the 2019-20 transfer window. Milan want to do well and everything is there to do so.
