Fiorentina Women ran away winners from the first leg of our Women’s Coppa Italia quarter-final after nicking a 2-1 victory at the Brianteo. The game was decided in the second half as Guagni and Bonetti cancelled out Salvatori Rinaldi’s opener. Plenty of regret for the Rossonere, especially after conceding the deciding goal in a great period of the game for them, as well as allowing Fiorentina to initially level through a lapse in concentration from the defence. A real shame after a performance full of will and desire. Although this home match ended in defeat, the Rossonere will still be looking to progress through the round with a big performance on 26 February in Florence. It will be difficult but not impossible, because just like in the league, AC Milan’s performance proved they were up to the standard today. The focus now turns back to Serie A, as Coach Ganz’s side travel to face Tavagnacco away next week on Saturday at 12:00 CET.

MATCH REPORT
Fiorentina started aggressively, with De Vanna causing Korenčiová problems right from the off. The Rossonere then burst into life after 17 minutes, but Longo’s header sailed over the crossbar after Tucceri Cimini’s ball in. Čonč failed to capitalise on an Ohrstrom mistake in the 39th minute, and Korenčiová came up strong at the other end to keep Guagni out. The start to the second half was all AC Milan’s, with Čonč and Tucceri Cimini both looking dangerous. Then, after 64 minutes, Salvatori Rinaldi opened the scoring as she slotted it into the corner of the net. However this lead didn’t last long, Guagni levelling in the 69th minute in the play following a free kick. Just three minutes later, Fiorentina took the lead: Bonetti latched on to a clearance and placed her effort into the corner with a perfect finish. The Rossonere were beaten, and simply couldn’t find the goal to pull a result from the game.
