It's becoming a bit of a habit, of which we will never tire. AC Milan won the women's Derby too. That's five from five now (three in Serie A and two in Coppa Italia) after today's 4-1 win. A round success, even though the Nerazzurre did make life difficult. The Rossonere strikers were the stars of the show: Dowie scored a brace and captain Giacinti left her mark. It was all wrapped up inside the first half (3-1) after Natasha and Valentina's goals - Marinelli did equalise for the away side. Čonč got on the scoresheet just after the break while Korenčiová saved a penalty. It was a strong performance, which was watched by Ivan Gazidis, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, all of whom were present at Vismara. It has been an incredible weekend for the Club in the Derby: Saturday saw Pioli's team win, while on Sunday it was the turn of coach Ganz's team. The Diavolo now moves to 15 points and third place in the league. Now, it's time for the international break. AC Milan return to action at the start of November with a Coppa Italia fixture against Cesena.
MATCH REPORT
The Rossonere stuck to their 3-5-2 and were rewarded in the 5th minute: Dowie popped up in the box and slotted it into the corner. However, the Nerazzurre's reply was instantaneous: in the 7th minute, Marinella put the ball past Korenčiová. Giacinti had a chance in the 10th minute to restore the lead, but her effort was saved by Aprile. Marinelli responded in the 25th minute, but she fluffed her lines in front of goal, firing well wide. Then came the AC Milan onslaught: in the 28th minute, Dowie bagged her second from a corner; then, in the 32nd minute, Giacinti finished off a beautiful team move for the Rossonere's third.
The script didn't change at the start of the second half either. Two minutes into the half, Čonč made it four, taking advantage of some confusion in the box. Chances continued to come. In the 51st minute, Mauro's header went wider; moments later, Vitale hit the crossbar. Inter had a chance to reduce the gap on the hour; Rizza committed a foul in the box, but Korenčiová denied Marinelli from the spot. Dowie could have had a hattrick in the 80th minute, but fired wide from close range. Maria Vittoria Nano - born in 2003 - made her debut shortly before the end of the game. It ended 4-1.
