0-0 WITH SASSUOLO, ROSSONERE ARE IN THE CUP SEMI-FINAL

A balanced and vibrant match at Vismara, the winner of Inter v Fiorentina in the next round

A goalless draw is enough to send Maurizio Ganz's AC Milan through to the women's Coppa Italia semi-final; it ended 0-0 at Vismara against Sassuolo, a fair result in a game that saw a periods of dominance for either side. The first half of the match belonged to the Rossoneri, who almost scored in the final moments with Tucceri Cimini and Dowie; in the second half the Emilian recovered, and came close to taking the advantage with Santoro and Philtjens. In the end, it was the away goal scored by captain Giacinti in the first leg that made the difference. The match at Vismara also saw the debut of the Japanese Yui Hasegawa among the Rossoneri. The streak of consecutive useful results in 2021 is now extended to five games (after the defeat in the Super Cup on January 6): the Coppa Italia semi-final opponents will be decided tomorrow as AC Milan will take on the winner of the quarter final between Inter and Fiorentina (It is 2-0 to the Nerazzurri from the first leg).

MATCH REPORT
Coach Ganz made some changes from the first leg, selecting Spinelli in defence from the beginning as well as Jane, Grimshaw and Tucceri Cimini in midfield. The tension was high: a goal would be more useful to Sassuolo against an AC Milan that only needed a 0-0, but the first chance of the match fell for the Rossoneri. Giacinti fed Dowie in the 3rd minute, Lemey was able to say no to our number ten. The neroverdi responded with good initiative by Dubcová, but it is AC Milan that came closest to scoring a goal again at the end of the first half. It all happened in a minute: at 42' a cross from Tucceri Cimini, at 43' a cross from Vero found the head of Dowie, but Lemey was decisive and denied the English striker from scoring the opening goal.

The second half was more controlled by the visitors, with Santoro hitting the crossbar in the 59th minute and shaking Korenčiová's goal. Ganz relied on Mauri and Hasegawa, the debutant of the day, but Sassuolo could still be found in the Rossoneri's half of the pitch with Philtjens, the scorer of the equaliser in the first leg, coming close to the advantage fifteen minutes from the end. That effort by the Belgian winger would actually be the last big chance for the neroverdi, with AC Milan managing to control the final minutes through experience and by avoiding big risks: it is now onto the semi-final of the Coppa Italia.
