A precious draw and the first stalemate that the Rossonere have played out this season. Indeed, AC Milan Women came away from today’s match at the Tre Fontane with a solid point, one that moves them closer to Champions League qualification. The team now hold a six-point advantage over Sassuolo with just three matchdays left in Serie A. 0-0 was the final result against Roma today, the team that the Rossonere will face in the Coppa Italia final on 30 May. Although no goals were scored, there was no shortage of chances during the showdown: after being forced back early on, Coach Ganz’s girls began to take control and were certainly on top as the first half was coming to an end. Vero was the player who came closest when she hit the bar in the 32nd minute, but Hasegawa and Bergamaschi also had big opportunities. The team can now look ahead to their next fixture, which will see them face Fiorentina at home. It’s another chance to move closer to the set objective.
MATCH REPORT
The Giallorosse began strongly and posed a real threat from corner kicks in particular. Linari had more than one effort at goal early on but was out of luck. In the 17th minute, Korenčiova kept out Serturini’s excellent header. However, AC Milan then started to step things up and push forward. Indeed, within the space of 13 minutes, they had three great opportunities to score. In the 19th minute, Hasegawa fired over from an excellent position. Three minutes later, Bergamaschi, who had been picked out by Yui, got a shot away but wasn’t able to score. With 32 minutes on the clock, Vero latched onto the ball on the edge of the box and let fly, but Ceasar did excellently to push the ball onto the crossbar. In the 43rd minute, the Rossonere once again found themselves in the opposition penalty area, but neither Tucceri Cimini nor Giacinti were able to apply the finishing touch. There wasn’t quite so much goalmouth action after the restart, but Ceasar was forced to intervene on more than one occasion, including when Tucceri Cimini played in a particularly dangerous ball after 67 minutes. Prior to this, Roma’s Lazaro narrowly missed the target with a lob. The last chance of the game came in the 89th minute when Vero found Giacinti, but a desperate sliding tackle denied Valentina. It finished 0-0.
