AC Milan Women soared into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, running out 8-2 winners over Sampdoria on aggregate. This afternoon, there was a repeat of the scoreline from the first leg, with Coach Ganz’s girls once again the dominant side and the only difference being the players who got on the scoresheet. There was a big performance from Nina Stapelfeldt, who was involved in the first three Rossonere goals: she provided the assist for Longo’s opener, won the free kick that was scored by Adami and then found the net herself at the start of the second half.
Also particularly noteworthy was Celeste Boureille’s debut, with the American starting in midfield and just missing out on a goal in the first half. She made a good impression with her physicality, vision and promising touches. It’s now time for the international break, after which the Rossonere will return to Serie A action away to Sassuolo on Saturday 26 February. It’ll be a big encounter in the fight for second place.

REPORT
The first half took place almost exclusively in the Sampdoria half, with AC Milan completely dominating proceedings. The Rossonere took the lead with their first chance as Stapelfeldt picked out Longo, who let fly with a lethal left-footed strike. Adami then took centre stage, first hitting the post following an AC Milan corner (11’) and then doubling the Rossonere’s lead with a free kick from the edge of the box (28’). Babb was more or less a spectator during the opening 45 minutes but dealt comfortably with everything that came her way.
As was the case in the opening period, AC Milan scored at the start of the second half too. Indeed, Stapelfeldt made it 3-0 with a great left-footed shot following a move that started from kick-off. The Rossonere were well in control and didn’t lose their composure even after Helmvall had reduced the arrears with a brilliant first-time effort from just outside the area (64’). With 76 minutes on the clock, Longo won the ball back from the Sampdoria defence and scored her second of the match, making it 4-1 in the process. This is how the match ended.
