The AC Milan women are back underway in the championship after the Derby to face defending champions Juventus, in a match that naturally brings with it special motivations. A clash that will be played in the unprecedented setting of the AlbinoLeffe Stadium in Zanica, and which we present with our Match Preview.
LATEST FROM PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
Last match's loss to Inter put a stop to a streak of three wins that reset the Rossonere ambitions, so far pointless against teams leading the table of a fairly-balanced championship. A lot at stake against the Bianconere: to get the three points would mean securing a spot in the top five and to look, with greater optimism, at continuing a season that is still long and with all the results within reach. An important milestone on the cards for Linda Tucceri Cimini, on the verge of her 100th appearance with AC Milan in all competitions: the Rossoneri number 27 would become the third player to reach triple figures after Laura Fusetti and captain Valentina Bergamaschi. Compared to the Derby, Valery Vigilucci is back to availability.
This is the Rossoneri squad list for the match: Babb, Beka, Giuliani; Árnadóttir, Carage, Fusetti, Mesjasz, Soffia, Thrige, Tucceri Cimini, Zanini; Adami, K.Dubcová, Grimshaw, Renzotti, Vigilucci; Asllani, Bergamaschi, M. Dubcová, Piemonte, Thomas.
"It will be a difficult match, especially after losing the Derby", Coach Maurizio Ganz said the night before. "We want to take the pitch with the ruthlessness and right determination to try and play a great match".
LATEST FROM JUVENTUS
14 points in the first six match days for the Bianconere, now sitting in fourth in the table. For Juventus, the match in Zanica comes between the first two group matches of the Women's Champions League: Monetmurro's team comes off a win at Zurich's place (2-0, goals from Cernoia and Bonansea), while after the match with AC Milan they will play - on Thursday night - a demanding fixture against defending champions Lyon. Because of the European appointments, therefore, there could be some changes in the line-up. In the last championship round (4-0 victory over Sampdoria), Juventus lined up with this 4-1-4-1: Peyraud-Magnin; Nildén, Gama, Salvai, Boattin; Rosucci; Cernoia, Caruso, Grosso, Bonansea; Girelli.
"We are in a very intense moment of the season, because we have a lot of important games in a short period of time", Joe Montemurro said after the European victory against Zurich. "On Saturday, in fact, we play away to AC Milan in the league and then another Champions League match for the first time at Allianz Stadium against the defending European champions Lyon, so the efforts of the entire squad will be necessary".
PRE-MATCH
AC Milan and Juventus is a rivalry that, in recent seasons, has had several chapters in the three domestic competitions and will see the Rossonere in search of a win that, against the defending champions, they haven't managed since 4 November 2018. Ganz's team comes off two consecutive wins at home - the triple has been missing since April 2021, when there were a total of six home victories in a row - and is so far the team that has scored the is so far the team that has scored the most goals from a cross (four, including the last three). The Bianconere have not lost in 13 league games (10 wins and three draws) and are used to starting their matches in high gear: no fewer than six goals have come in the first quarter of an hour of play, while AC Milan are one of three teams not to have conceded a goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.
