The victory over Juventus is still fresh in the memory for Ganz's girls, but it is already time for the Rossonere to look ahead to their next game, one that signals the halfway point on the fixture list. It is vital to get further points on the board from the next two fixtures against Pomigliano and Como in order to close the gap on rivals further up the table. Here is our Match Preview ahead of the game with the side from Campania.
PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
The thrilling victory in Zanica against the current champions has galvanised AC Milan, allowing them to consolidate their position in the Scudetto Poule, reserved for the first five positions, three points ahead of sixth-placed Sampdoria. Together with the staff, the group has worked hard to avoid drops in concentration, as they look to pick up a win away from home, where they have only picked up three points from a possible nine so far this season. Many players will be looking to make a contribution to the match with Pomigliano, starting from Piemonte, who grabbed her first goal of the season last time out, Tucceri Cimini, fresh from her 100th appearance for the Club, and Lindsey-Thomas, who is still looking to open her account this season.
Here is the squad selected for the game: Babb, Giuliani, Fedele; Árnadóttir, Carage, Fusetti, Mesjasz, Soffia, Thrige, Tucceri Cimini, Zanini; Adami, K.Dubcová, Grimshaw, Mascarello, Vigilucci; Asllani, Bergamaschi, M. Dubcová, Piemonte, Thomas.
"Tomorrow will see two sides in good health who both won their previous games," commented Coach Maurizio Ganz on the eve of the match. "It's an important game for us."
POMIGLIANO
After starting the Serie A season off with a draw against Como and five defeats, Pomigliano won last time out beating Parma 3-1 at Tardini, which took them off the bottom of the table for the first time this season. For Coach Sanchez's side, beating AC Milan would mean breaking their home hoodoo, given that they are yet to win a home game in the whole of 2022. The real Achilles Heel for the Granate is in the final 30 minutes of a game, where they have conceded costly goals, losing them several vital points. Among the players, their most dangerous attacking threat comes from the Brazilian Taty, who has got four goals in five games, while in defence former Rossonere player Federica Rizza should start.
"The performance against Parma was very positive and full of quality. Against the Rossonere, we'll have to go out and play in the same way," said new Coach Carlo Sanchez. "We'll have to take the game to them and not be afraid in facing a big name, who have lots of talented players. We'll be ready for the game."
PRE-MATCH
Pomigliano are only in their second Serie A season so meetings between the Clubs have been few and far between, with AC Milan winning them both last season. The Rossonere won 2-0 away from home, while in Milan they won convincingly 6-2. Martina Piemonte, one of two players who got the most home league goals in 2022 (five), but didn't score away from home, got her only double wearing the Rossonere jersey against the Granata. Looking at three away games played against sides from Campania, AC Milan have won all three in that region, and only against teams from Veneto have they played and won more games on the road.
