Martina Piemonte bagged the decisive goal as the Rossonere came through a tough encounter to record their second league win in a row and fourth victory in five matches in 2023. AC Milan's No.18, who has now scored seven times in Serie A (six of these have come in her last eight games) and on ten occasions in all competitions in 2022/23, once again played a pivotal role for Coach Ganz's girls, who had to dig in today to thwart Pomigliano's advances and were also grateful to Laura Giuliani, who produced a brilliant stop to deny Amorim in the closing stages.
The Rossonere have now picked up 15 points from their last six matches, exactly the same as league leaders Roma and more than their direct rivals in the table. AC Milan currently sit on 31 points, still in fifth place but within touching distance of Inter and Fiorentina. The Women's Serie A will now take a brief break to accommodate the latest round of international fixtures, after which the Rossonere will play their final game of the regular season against Como on Sunday 26 February in Seregno.

MATCH REPORT
The first big chance of the match arrived in the eighth minute as Grimshaw hit the post. The opening half an hour saw the Rossonere on the front foot as they comfortably contained their opponents. Vigilucci threatened in the 27th minute, while Bergamaschi sent a 32nd-minute header narrowly wide. Two minutes later, Grimshaw's cross-shot was cleared by Cetinja, while, at the other end, Martínez had a goal ruled out for offside just before the break.
The visitors were the better side at the start of the second half. In the 52nd minute, Giuliani kept out Gallizzi's attempt and Sena failed to convert the follow-up. Two minutes later, the latter played a dangerous ball across the box, but no Pomigliano player was there to get on the end of it. Having survived a couple of scares, Ganz's girls went back on the attack, with Cetinja saving Guagni's close-range attempt just before the hour mark. The Rossonere opened the scoring in the 69th minute: Árnadóttir whipped in a corner and, after a scramble in the box, Piemonte found the net with her head to make it 1-0. Pomigliano did everything they could to draw level as the game drew to a close, with Giuliani coming up with heroics (83') and Adami clearing off the line (84'). Ultimately, the Rossonere dug in to pick up three vital points.
