THE ROSSONERE DRAW 1-1 AWAY TO FIORENTINA

Dompig grabs an equaliser after Vero's opener in Sesto Fiorentino: AC Milan remain third

The sixth meeting of the season between Fiorentina and AC Milan finished in a 1-1 draw. Indeed, the spoils were shared on matchday 7 of the championship round following a goal in each half. After Vero’s opener from the penalty spot, Chanté Dompig, who looked lively throughout, found the net for a second consecutive match to level matters. It was a fair result and sees Maurizio Ganz’s side maintain their third-place position in the table (40 points, one ahead of today’s opponents and four in front of Inter).

In a match that required a few cooling breaks due to the hot weather, the Rossonere displayed plenty of character to come from behind once again. A sour note from the game was the injury picked up by Selena Babb, who was transported to hospital to be assessed after a shoulder problem. The Rossonere will return to the pitch next weekend for their final home game of the campaign: on Saturday 13 May, Roma, the Champions of Italy, will be the visitors to the PUMA House of Football.

MATCH REPORT
The match started at a slow tempo, with the heat affecting both sides. Fiorentina had the first chances of the game through Catena, while, on the 21-minute mark, Dompig and Grimshaw were both denied by Baldi. Catena was the home side’s biggest threat, but the Rossonere defence looked organised and weren’t affording their opponents any space. The match changed in the 36th minute: Babb was penalised for a foul on Vero in the box and, to make things worse, the Rossonera was forced off with injury. Giuliani came on and guessed the right way, but she was unable to keep out the spot-kick: 1-0 to Fiorentina. AC Milan looked to respond through Piemonte, but the Viola could have doubled their advantage in stoppage time as Giuliani thwarted Hammarlund.

The Rossonere equalised with the first chance of the second half: Baldi misjudged Soffia’s right-wing cross and the ball fell to Dubcová, who supplied the assist for Dompig to score for a second successive match after her finish against Juventus (51’). It led to a change in pace, with Grimshaw and Mijatović both having attempts at goal. Dompig had a great opportunity after 62 minutes following a mistake by Cafferata, but Baldi was able to foil the No.99. Possession switched sides as the teams struggled to create chances. Giuliani was alert in the 78th minute with Vero looking to score her second, while three Viola players then intervened as Dompig threatened on the 84-minute mark. Longo had the final effort, but the ball finished wide. Full-time.
