The Women's Cup, the largest global tournament in Women's professional Club football, is coming to Europe. The competition will be played in the Spanish capital, Madrid, between 23 and 26 August, just after the Women's World Cup concludes. The Rossoneri, under the guidance of head coach Maurizio Ganz, are returning for a second straight year after taking part in the tournament in the USA in 2022.
Two European clubs, hosts Atlético Madrid and AC Milan, will take part alongside two South American sides in América de Cali (Colombia) and River Plate (Argentina).
Matches will take place at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcalá de Henares. The Rossonere take on América de Cali at 18:00 CEST on Wednesday 23 August in the first game, followed by the other Semifinal at 21:00 CEST. The third-place playoff and the Final will take place on Saturday 26 August.
"We're pleased to be playing in The Women's Cup again", said captain of AC Milan Women Valentina Bergamaschi. "It's a high-level competition that allows us to come up against different styles of play and massive international Clubs. It taking place in Madrid is a fantastic opportunity for all the teams involved, as was in the USA last time too. We can't wait to get out there and play our first few games of the season. We need this tournament to test our potential ahead of welcoming back our teammates involved in the World Cup before Serie A starts again."
"After two great experiences in the US, we're pleased to be organising our first-ever tournament in Europe, which is a big step for the women's game on a global scale," said the President and CEO of The Women's Cup, John Paul Reynal. The Founder and Executive Director of the tournament, Jaime Phillips, added, "Our ambition is to make this tournament more international with every passing year and to contribute to the development of women's football worldwide."
