The first derby of the season ends in a narrow 1-0 defeat: a combative AC Milan succumbed to Inter through Cambiaghi's 72nd minute goal. A result the Rossonere did not deserve to endure in an even game. Corti's team, in his first game managing the Rossonere, were the better team in the first half. In the second half, however, Inter struck the woodwork twice, whilst Bergamaschi and her teammates had numerous chances to level the score.
In spite of the less positive period, there were good indications from a team that were always in the game, creating triangles and reading the phases of the game well. Indications to take with them when the league restarts, by which point, it will already be December, with the Rossonere's final two meetings of the calendar year. MATCH REPORT
A very even start, with both teams taking it in turn to build up play in their own half in front of the impressive Arena Civica crowd. The first concrete chance went to the Rossonere in the 13th minute after Stašková's attempt on the rebound was parried by Durante. Laurent could not find the net with her 22nd minute effort, whilst Giuliani was equal to Polli and Simonetti's headers. The Rossonera Number 1 saved Cambiaghi's right-footed effort in the 32nd minute, to which AC Milan replied with a shot from Piga which had the power taken off it by a deflection before Durante saved. The final shot of the first 45' was taken by Laurent: winning the ball back high, she shot, but it was deflected wide.
The second half began with Árnadóttir taking Guagni's place before Durante saved from Laurent's counter-attack. Inter shot in the 55th minute through Csiszár, AC Milan replied with two attempts by Grimshaw and Stašková, but the game remained even. The Nerazzurre hit the woodwork again in the 64th minute from Karchouni's cross, on the rebound Giuliani flew to deny Simonetti. Inter broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with Cambiaghi's header from a corner. There was an immediate reaction with Stašková's header for Grimshaw, her left foot just high. We didn't stop, Vigilucci had a good chance on the counter, but Durante saved on the line. Stašková turned well in the area in the 81st minute, but her shot was beaten away. The Rossonere did not give up, they tried in the final minutes through Asllani and Marinelli, but it remained 1-0.
POST MATCH REMARKS
"We tried to work most on motivation, when there's a change in manager a lot of things are reset. I saw a lot of willingness from everyone, this pleased me," said Coach Davide Corti after the match. "I found a calm and willing atmosphere, a team whose skills are not reflected in the standings. The aim is to make ground with determination, then look to play a brilliant game. We didn't manage to capitalise on a couple of significant chances, a draw would've reflected the two teams' performances".
The coach then concluded with a thought about International Day for the elimination of violence against women. "We are fed up with hearing about violence on the news. Sport is important to spread awareness, when we are able to speak out and highlight an issue that should not still be in newspapers. As much as possible, we will always try to have our say, to raise our voice so that certain aspects are eliminated for good."
