A new year and new opportunities. After a difficult end to 2023, the Rossonere will kick off 2024 with plenty of desire to get back to winning ways and boost their position in the table. A tough encounter is certainly in store: awaiting our girls at the Stadio Vittorio Pozzo are Juventus, who are fresh from their Supercoppa Italiana triumph. With the team looking to get the year off to a flying start, here is our Match Preview ahead of Saturday’s 16:15 CET kick-off.
LATEST FROM THE PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
AC Milan have gone six games without a win: following their 4-1 victory over Pomigliano on 22 October, the Rossonere have drawn three and lost three. The Rossonere’s aim is to turn around their current form, starting with a big showdown against the Bianconere. The hope is the team can build on Laurent’s 96th-minute equaliser against Napoli in a match where they deserved more than a point but, in the end, managed to avoid defeat. With Coach Corti handing out the orders, the group returned to training on 2 January. Meanwhile, on 6 January, there were plenty of positives to take from their friendly against Nice (a 3-1 win), including Gosia Mesjasz’s return to the pitch.
The following players will be available for the clash: Babb, Copetti, Giuliani; Bergamaschi, Fusetti, Guagni, Mesjasz, Piga, Swaby; Cernoia, Dubcová, Grimshaw, Mascarello, Rubio, Soffia, Vigilucci; Arrigoni, Asllani, Dompig, Laurent, Marinelli, Stašková.
Corti spoke on the eve of Juventus v AC Milan: "We are ready, we have regained some physical and mental energy. From here on out it's a new season, everyone is expecting a big game from us. I believe we will be able to have a new attitude and a desire to win after all those games where we didn't get what we deserved".
LATEST FROM JUVENTUS
The Bianconere have started 2024 on the right foot: on Sunday, at the Stadio Zini in Cremona, they won the Supercoppa Italiana after getting the better of reigning Italian champions Roma, who are currently top of the league table. In doing so, they bounced back from their away defeat to Sampdoria in their final game of 2023. The Bianconere have been very active in the transfer market: the arrivals of Echegini and Pelgander and the return of Bragonzi have been confirmed, while Amanda Nilden is ready to move on. 22-year-old Nigerian Joe Echegini should be at Montemurro’s disposal for the clash against the Rossonere. Juventus are heading into the upcoming clash in high spirits and motivated by the desire to close the six-point gap to first-place Roma as they pursue the Scudetto.
PRE-MATCH STATS
The Rossonere’s last victory away to Juventus dates back to 4 February 2023: goals from Piemonte and Thomas secured a 2-1 success that put an end to the Bianconere’s 49-game unbeaten home run. Kosovare Asllani bagged a brace in her first encounter with the Bianconere when the Rossonere ran out 4-3 winners on 22 October 2022. The Swede has scored 13 goals in our shirt and is just two goals away from drawing level with Lindsey Thomas (15) as AC Milan’s highest foreign goalscorer in Serie A. Along with Asllani, captain Valentina Bergamaschi is one of two players currently at AC Milan to have scored more than once for the Rossonere against the Old Lady in all competitions: she bagged a brace when the two sides met in the Coppa Italia on 1 May 2022.
