SERIE A WOMEN, AC MILAN v SASSUOLO: MATCH PREVIEW

The Rossonere back on home turf as they look to claim vital points

A modern classic of Italian women's football rounds off November before the international break. AC Milan v Sassuolo awaits on matchday 7 of the 2025/26 Serie A Women, and here is our Match Preview to introduce this crucial clash:

LATEST FROM THE PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
It's been another week of hard work for the Rossonere as they look to move past the defeat against Como in Seregno and build on their strong home form in Fiorenzuola d'Arda. This month has already brought wins over Lazio and Juventus, and the aim now is to add a third victory. There are no changes in terms of player availability from a physical standpoint, but the squad will have to cope with the absence of Milicia Keijzer, who is suspended after being sent off late on in the last league match.

Suzanne Bakker gave her thoughts on the eve of the match: "After last week's loss, we are determined to bounce back. With the defeat against Sassuolo in the Women's Cup also in our mind, we know that we must start with full focus and 100% energy. We have trained this week with high intensity and the right mentality. Our aim is to show a strong and attractive performance".

LATEST FROM SASSUOLO
It's been a mixed start to the season for the Emilians, who, after the August encounter with the Rossonere in the Women's Cup, have won only one game (a 1–0 victory over a high-flying Como on 18 October), while also managing to hold both Juventus and Inter to draws. Last time out, an unfortunate home defeat to Ternana left them second from bottom outright, a position they'll want to move away from as soon as possible. Alessandro Spugna can still rely on several key strengths, starting with the evergreen Lana Clelland (on target in the cup tie against the Rossonere), as well as the reliability of Durand in goal, the Caiazzo-Nash defensive partnership, and a midfield anchored by Missipo and Hagemann.

Alessandro Spugna's comments ahead of the clash: "AC Milan have very strong players, but we also have important qualities, and we'll have to show them with character. In the cup, we suffered their possession but managed to capitalize on counterattacks to secure the result. Both teams have changed since then; it will be a different match, and we're coming into it eager to bounce back".

PRE-MATCH NUMBERS

  • AC Milan have won their last two Serie A meetings with Sassuolo. After the 1-0 victory on 3 November 2024, the Rossonere could secure back-to-back home wins with clean sheets against the Neroverde in the league for only the second time in their history, after previously achieving this between November 2019 (1-0) and December 2020 (2-0).
  • After their 4-2 win against Lazio and 2–1 victory over Juventus, AC Milan could secure three consecutive home wins for the first time in 2025. They last achieved this between September and November 2024, when the third match was also against Sassuolo (1-0 on 3 November).
  • AC Milan have scored the most first-half goals (six) in Serie A this season, a period in which no team has conceded a higher proportion than Sassuolo: 67% (4/6). Additionally, only Roma boast a better shot-to-goal conversion rate (16%) than the Rossonere (15.4%, 12 goals from 78 shots) so far this campaign.
  • With a goal in this match, Evelyn Ijeh, who already has two goals and an assist against Sassuolo in the league, would become only the second foreign player in AC Milan's history to reach 20 goals across all competitions (she currently has 19). Since her Serie A Women debut, the Swede has scored 18 league goals, the highest number for a foreign player in this period, narrowly ahead Sassuolo's Lana Clelland (17).
