SERIE A WOMEN, COMO 1907 vs. AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

We're back! Suzanne Bakker's Rossonere are gearing up for the opening matchday of the 2026/27 Serie A Women season. For AC Milan, the challenge comes against a team they faced less than a month ago: newly promoted Como 1907. However, unlike the Women's Cup match at the PUMA House of Football, this Saturday, September 26th at 6:00 pm CEST at SNEF Lambrone in Erba will be a completely different game. We're counting down to kickoff with our Match Preview.

LATEST FROM THE PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
With the Cup campaign now over and some disappointment following the defeat to Juventus, the team has worked hard and consistently over the past few weeks, alternating gym sessions with on-field training. There has also been some recent transfer news, with American midfielder Abi Brighton joining the squad to strengthen a midfield that showed plenty of promise during the Women's Cup, particularly through the Grimshaw-Mascarello-Arrigoni trio. Official league debuts are also on the horizon for two other new additions to the squad, Nevado and Kanutte, who have already made a positive impression in the Cup matches. There are no suspended or players at risk of suspension among the Rossonere, and the squad is in good physical shape heading into the opener.

The newly promoted Como 1907, an ambitious side strengthened over the summer by the arrival of high-profile players such as Bonfantini, Durante, Haavi, Wullaert and Xhemaili, did not have the best start to life in the top flight. Their three Women's Cup defeats to Juventus, AC Milan and Como Women, all of which saw them concede two goals, were followed by a response in the first round of the Coppa Italia, where Como 1907 defeated Brescia 2-1 away from home thanks to goals from Wullaert and Xhemaili. They will face Lazio in the Round of 16. In recent weeks, one of the major talking points has been the announcement regarding forward Roberta Picchi, who has been forced to step away from the game indefinitely to undergo treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The 1992-born player, whose contract has been extended through June 2028, has received an outpouring of support from the entire Italian soccer community, including AC Milan.

• The match between AC Milan and Como 1907 will be the 51st different Lombardy derby played in Serie A since the FIGC took over the organization of the league in 1986/87. It will be the fifth for the Rossonere after previous meetings with Orobica, Inter, Atalanta Mozzanica and Como Women. In the top flight, AC Milan have won their first meeting against an individual opponent on 17 occasions out of 22. 
• AC Milan have won their opening-day Serie A Women match five times in eight seasons, including most recently a 2-1 win away to Genoa on October 5th, 2025. Their next victory will be their 100th in Serie A Women (they have played 181 official league matches to date). 
• AC Milan have the best defensive record in Serie A since the start of 2026, conceding just eight goals in 13 matches. The Rossonere have also kept six clean sheets in the league in the same period (fewer only than Como Women and Roma, who have seven each). AC Milan could record seven clean sheets in a single calendar year for the first time since 2023.  
• Thea Kyvåg is AC Milan's leading goal contributor across all competitions in 2026, with six (four goals and two assists). She is also one of two players to have scored the most goals for the Rossonere during that period, with four. One of the Norwegian's five goals for AC Milan came against Como 1907 in the Serie A Women’s Cup on August 29th.

Giacomo Rossini, from the Turin section, will referee the match in Erba. He will be assisted by linesmen Lauri (Modena) and Todaro (Finale Emilia), with Copelli (Mantua) as the fourth official. Cassano (Saronno) will be the FVS operator. The technological system, which supports refereeing decisions in competitions where VAR is not used, has also been confirmed for the 2026/27 season. To support Football Video Support, the FIGC has announced that additional cameras will be installed at all grounds across the league.

Matchday 1 of Serie A Women gets underway on Saturday, September 26th, with three fixtures: Juventus vs. Napoli Women at 12:30 pm CEST, Lazio vs. Parma at 3:00 pm CEST and Como 1907 vs. AC Milan at 6:00 pm CEST. The opening round will be completed on Sunday, September 27th, with Ternana Women vs. Como Women at 12:30 pm CEST, Inter vs. Fiorentina at 1:00 pm CEST and Sassuolo vs. Roma at 3:00 pm CEST.
