A STRONG START FOR THE PRIMAVERA

Di Gesù's goal at the start of the second half proved decisive in a 1-0 win over Cagliari

An impressive return, one befitting of an AC Milan side. The Rossoneri got back underway in the Primavera 1 with a well-deserved win over Cagliari, who finished second in the league last season. Enrico Di Gesù's strike at the start of the second half proved decisive, capping off an impressive team move from Asseminello's side. The Rossoneri looked particularly sharp and dangerous after the break, but they applied pressure and moved the ball around nicely from start to finish. Moreover, they didn't give the hosts many chances, in a more than convincing performance. After a year away, AC Milan's Primavera side have returned to the top flight, and they have marked that return with an important win, which will no doubt do wonders for the morale of a group that is constantly improving. The Primavera will face another real test next Saturday at the Vismara against Atalanta, the reigning champions. More of the same please, boys!

MATCH REPORT
The first real chance of the match fell to Giacomo Olzer in the 7th minute, who fired over off a delightful assist from Tonin, who did well to free himself up as he neared the touchline. Olzer came close to opening the scoring once again a minute later off Capone's corner, winning the header at the near post, but his effort rattled the bar. Andreas Jungdal responded well to an effort from Delpupo in the 9th minute as the hosts looked to hit the Rossoneri on the counter. AC Milan were back on the attack in the 19th minute: with Olzer setting up Capone with his chest, but once again, the effort had too much elevation on it. In the 26th minute, Contini gave Jungdal a fright, with his effort, assisted by Desogus, just inches over the bar. Contini threatened once again in the 31st minute with a powerful effort, but this time, the Rossoneri keeper made a sensational save to deny the hosts the lead. In the 42nd minute, Olzer, putting pressure on Cabras as he looked to clear his lines, came close to forcing a real howler from the keeper. New life was injected into the match as half-time drew near, with Contini once more coming close, but his effort was just over the bar, once again.

At the start of the second half, AC Milan didn't hesitate to get back on the attack, and this time, they found the breakthrough: in the 49th minute, following a cross from Bosisio, Di Gesù made no hesitation to convert the chance after an aerial clash with Piga. The Rossoneri were full of confidence, and looked to double their lead, with chances for Tonin and Capone, but their efforts proved fruitless. Emil Roback also got to make his debut, but it was Capone who provided the inspiration in the 77th minute: a delightful piece of skill and a body feint were followed by an inch-perfect cross. However, Bright, who entered the fray in the second half, was unable to convert. But the chances didn't stop there: Conti put a searching ball into the area which, after a series of deflections, brushed the post, and in the 86th minute, Capone was unable to convert on the counter, with his effort comfortably saved by Cabras. The goal was gaping for Olzer with two minutes to go, but his left-footed effort missed by a whisker. After three minutes of added time, the first match of the season for Coach Giunti and his side came to a close: a winning return to the Primavera 1, and a well-deserved victory at that.
