THE PRIMAVERA GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Bosisio scores the only goal as Coach Giunti's side beat Lecce 1-0 to put an end to their three-game losing run

After three consecutive defeats, AC Milan Primavera returned to winning ways today, defeating Lecce 1-0 to move back into playoff contention: with eleven matchdays remaining, the Rossoneri sit four points behind sixth place. Marco Bosisio’s header early on in the second half – his first goal for the Primavera – was enough to decide an even affair in favour of Coach Giunti’s side, whose tenth league win came against the same team they beat to record their first victory earlier on in the season.

It's a big confidence-booster for the Rossoneri, who gave very little away against a side that came to Vismara looking for points in their fight against relegation, especially after taking the lead. The afternoon couldn’t have gone better, then, as attentions now turn to the remaining fixtures in March: first, the Diavolo will face Fiorentina away from home at 15:00 CET on Sunday; then, on Saturday 19th, Hellas Verona will be the visitors to Vismara, with kick-off scheduled for 11:00 CET.

MATCH REPORT
Coach Giunti sent his team out in a 4-3-3 formation with an attacking trio of Capone, Roback and Omoregbe, the latter of whom made his first start. The first chance of the game fell the visitors’ way as Desplanches kept out Been Wessel’s volley (8’). Five minutes later, Capone found Roback, who created a bit of space for himself and had a go, only for Samooja to make the stop. AC Milan were starting to attack with more purpose, with Omoregbe (especially in the 31st minute) and Tolomello looking particularly threatening. It was the latter who had the best opportunity of the half: after combining with Capone, his left-footed strike was saved by the Lecce goalkeeper with 42 minutes on the clock.

Lecce were the brighter side at the start of the second half, with Pascalau coming close with a header from a corner (54’). Then, in an intense 60 seconds, the Rossoneri responded vigorously. In the 56th minute, Tolomello’s powerful right-footed effort was turned behind by Samooja. From the resulting corner, the Rossoneri broke the deadlock: Bosisio headed in Capone’s cross to score his first goal of the season. AC Milan came close to doubling their advantage in the 62nd minute through Gala, who, after being picked out by the excellent Omoregbe, saw his goal-bound attempt blocked. The final 30 minutes were largely uneventful, with AC Milan controlling matters and Lecce only really threatening through Salomaa’s 82nd-minute free kick. It finished 1-0.
