THE PRIMAVERA FALL TO A 3-1 DEFEAT IN FLORENCE

Giunti’s team suffer defeat at the hands of Fiorentina as the poor run of form continues

Our victory against Lecce at Vismara had raised the mood in the Primavera camp slightly. Today, however, the team fell to defeat at the hands of Fiorentina, a bit of a bogey team for Giunti’s boys. The game finished 3-1, after what was an even first half, though the Viola went on to dominate the second 45. Leonardo Rossi scored the Rossoneri’s only goal to make it 1-1 after thirty minutes of play, but only momentarily. However, the second half saw the Rossoneri, who were depleted with numerous absences, with a below-par performance that was capitalised upon by Aquilani's side, who, after this result, find themselves in second in the table. Four defeats in their last five games is certainly a disappointing record for Giunti’s team, who will look to right their wrongs at Vismara this Saturday against Hellas Verona.

REPORT
The first opening of the game came in the 14th minute when Omoregbe wasted an excellent opportunity on the break to take the lead. On the other hand, Fiorentina were clinical, as Toçi got into the box to meet Bianco's through ball and fired past Desplanches. A goal missed at one end, a goal scored at the other. However, the Rossoneri came back strong and got a good foothold in the game. Alesi’s shot from the edge of the box in the 27th minute could only find the gloves of Andonov. Four minutes later, the equaliser came: Omoregbe - overlapping on the right - put it on a plate for Alesi in the middle, who could only strike the post but Rossi was waiting on hand to tap in the rebound and score his third league goal of the season. Alesi was involved once again, as his wicked free-kick from distance forced Andonov to parry for a corner (39').

However, the hosts struck early in the second half with the worst possible change of plot. In the 47th minute, Toçi played it to Distefano, who place a perfect shot right into the top corner: 2-1 Fiorentina. The reaction from AC Milan didn’t come, as Krastev - unmarked - hit the crossbar following a free-kick. At 75 minutes, El Hilali tried from distance without causing much trouble. The Viola got their third goal through Egharevba, who pounced on the indecision between Stanga and Desplanches and killed the game: 3-1.

GIUNTI'S THOUGHTS
"The result is perhaps a bit harsh and doesn’t represent how we played. We had a good first half, in which we didn’t allow Fiorentina to run the game thanks to our compact structure, which allowed us to absorb the pressure and break quickly and dangerous into their box. Unfortunately, we must pay for the opening exchanges of the second half, in which, despite my encouragement to start strong, we allowed ourselves to be caught out by one of Fiorentina's first attacks of the half. It was an uphill battle from there on in. However, the boys were pushing for an equaliser well before the end, without quite managing to get the goal. I have to praise the lads because they played well."
