CAGLIARI BEAT THE PRIMAVERA 4-2 AT VISMARA

A good first-half performance isn't enough for Coach Giunti's side, who fall to defeat against the Sardinians

AC Milan Primavera suffered a second consecutive defeat in the league, going down 4-2 to Cagliari at Vismara and falling further behind the play-off zone. It was a harsh scoreline for the Rossoneri, who performed really well in the first half and displayed a proud reaction when they were a man down and 3-2 behind in the closing stages, coming close to drawing level in added time. In an even affair where there was no shortage of incidents (both sides had a man sent off and hit the woodwork), the greater ruthlessness displayed by the Sardinians, who now sit twelve points ahead of the Rossoneri, ultimately made the difference.

AC Milan’s two goalscorers today were Di Gesù and Nasti, the latter of whom bagged his twelfth of the season in the league. Another thing of note was Marko Lazetić’s first start. It’s an afternoon that the Rossoneri will have to quickly put behind them, also because they’ll be playing four matches in the next two weeks. Next up is an away match against SPAL at 17:00 CEST on Tuesday, after which they’ll face Sampdoria at home at 16:30 CEST on Easter Saturday.

MATCH REPORT
It was a very windy day at Vismara, but the difficult conditions didn't stop the two teams from playing at a high pace. The Rossoneri seemed to be gaining the upper hand early on, but the visitors had the first chance of the match as Yanken hit the bar (18’). At the other end, Tolomello threatened for AC Milan a minute later. In the 27th minute, Capone and Lazetić combined before the Serb played in Di Gesù, who fired over when one-on-one with D'Aniello. Capone had a go on the half-hour mark, but Cagliari took the lead six minutes later through Desogus, who found the net with a powerful first-time effort with his left foot. The Rossoneri looked to hit back. D’Aniello did just about enough to turn Borges’ 40th-minute attempt onto the post, but AC Milan drew level a minute later: Di Gesù got on the end of Bozzolan’s cross and finished it off in the six-yard box.

The tempo wasn’t quite as high at the start of the second half. After nine minutes of the teams trying to figure one another out, Cagliari restored their lead thanks to Luvumbo’s left-footed strike. The Rossoneri didn’t respond as aggressively as before, with the away side defending astutely. Nasti, on as a substitute, shot over from an excellent position after 71 minutes. Things became more difficult for AC Milan four minutes later as Nsiala received a second yellow. Cagliari then extended their lead in the 81st minute through Vinciguerra, who made the most of Obaretin’s mistake to beat Desplanches on the counter. The Rossoneri didn’t give up and reduced the arrears through Nasti’s penalty with two minutes of normal time remaining. It was a chaotic finish: the visitors also went down to ten men following Zullu’s sending-off (93’) and El Hilali tested D'Aniello from distance. However, with the Diavolo pouring forward, Cagliari hit Coach Giunti’s side on the break as Luvumbo put the game to bed once and for all. Full-time.
