MILAN FUTURO, A FIRST MONTH OF LEARNING

Six games played across all competitions (league, Coppa Italia and Premier League International Cup U21), with four wins and two defeats. That is Milan Futuro’s first review as they reach the first break of the project’s third season, which focuses on the growth and development of young talent. Sergio Navarro’s side will return to action in October, with fixtures against Piacenza and Pavonese postponed due to several players being away with the youth national teams.

From their first official kick-off in the Coppa Italia di D against Sant'Angelo to Sunday’s last-second win away to Villa Valle, these six games have shown that our young players can handle the step up. They have proved capable of competing in a division featuring players and teams with considerably more experience and greater familiarity with senior football. Just think of the almost eight-year difference in the average age of the starting XIs for Villa Valle and Milan Futuro.

Every game at this level represents an important opportunity to grow, develop and learn. Going from Goodison Park in Liverpool to the Chinetti in Solbiate Arno within the space of a few hours, which occurred in early September between Everton U21 and Caldiero Terme, could have led to a drop in focus and commitment from a young squad beginning to find its feet in senior football. Yet that was not the case, and the results on the pitch displayed the daily work put it on the training ground.

The reaction to the league defeat against Palazzolo is also worth highlighting as consecutive wins over Brusaporto and Villa Valle followed. Both victories came by the same scoreline, 2-1, but unfolded in different ways. “The result is a consequence. For us, it is important to improve the details, thanks to our teammates and opponents, and understand what is required in professional football,” Coach Navarro said after the game in Villa d'Almé. The team will now try to continue to build on these principles with confidence and optimism.
