Matchday 10 of Serie A 2026/27 brings the first Derby of the season. AC Milan and Inter meet for the first time since March 8th, 2026, when Pervis Estupiñán's goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Rossoneri. Christian Pulisic had scored the winner in the reverse fixture, which also ended 1-0. Following the recent midweek round, seven points separate the two sides in the standings. Inter is joint top with Lazio on 25 points, while AC Milan sits fifth with 18.
The Derby comes toward the end of a demanding run of fixtures between international breaks. It offers Amorim's side an immediate opportunity to bounce back from the 4-2 home defeat to Bologna. Injuries and a congested schedule have made preparations particularly challenging for the Rossoneri. In this Opponent Review, we take a closer look at our rivals' form and strengths ahead of the clash.
AN ATTACK THAT KEEPS SCORING
Inter's position at the top of the standings alongside Lazio reflects its impressive start to the season. However, the attacking statistics are particularly striking. Cristian Chivu's side has scored in 19 consecutive Serie A matches, the longest active streak in the league. The last team to keep the Nerazzurri from scoring was AC Milan, in the Derby on March 8th. Since the start of last season, Inter has scored at least twice in 16 away league games. Across Europe's top five leagues, only Bayern Munich has managed more (18), while Barcelona has matched that tally.
Inter will, however, be without captain Lautaro Martínez. The Argentine is not only one of Chivu's main attacking threats but also plays a key role in build-up play and maintaining possession in the final third. Marcus Thuram is expected to lead Serie A's most prolific attack, which already boasts 10 different goalscorers this season. The French forward is enjoying an excellent run of form, having scored five league goals. Either Bonny or Esposito is expected to partner him up front.
CHARACTER AND COMEBACKS
One of Inter's defining qualities this season has been its ability to respond to adversity. The Nerazzurri have collected 13 points from losing positions, more than any other Serie A team so far. They have come from behind in five different matches and remain unbeaten in the league. Chivu's side fell behind against Napoli, Udinese, Roma, Bologna and Fiorentina, but recovered to win four of those games and draw the other.
Even more impressively, Inter has come back from two goals down on three occasions, showing character and confidence. Its goalscoring patterns also highlight the team's strength after halftime. 62% of Inter's goals this season have come in the second half, including 11 in the final 15 minutes. These numbers underline the Nerazzurri's ability to increase their intensity and attacking threat as games progress.
