PARMA V AC MILAN: POST-MATCH REACTIONS

Coach Gattuso and Cristian Zapata to Milan TV after Saturday's draw at the Tardini

Coach Gattuso had this to say to Milan TV after Saturday’s draw against Parma at the Tardini.

THE GAME ITSELF
"It wasn’t easy, just as we knew it wouldn't be. Our performance was sub-par during the first half. We were playing too straight and couldn’t find any outlets. Meanwhile, we upped the tempo in the second half but conceded foolishly at the end. We could’ve done a lot more. They didn’t worry us after Castillejo’s goal. We were always defending with six against two. It was only one incident that caught us out. We should’ve dealt with the final minutes differently but this is part of football."

A CHANGE IN FORMATION
"We’d already tried it and we’d had success with it. However, let’s not think about the formation but rather on how we’ll approach our next few matches in the best possible way, without any excuses. It was hot out there, but this was also the case for them. Today, we lacked the desire to get on the ball."

FIRST HALF
"They had a five-man defence when they didn’t have the ball, however, we knew their style of play. We should’ve done better when in possession, we created chances in the second half though."

COPPA ITALIA
"We must take it game by game. We’ll now focus on Lazio and I know that there will be more than 55,000 fans in attendance. We can’t put in another performance like that of our first half against Parma."

After putting in a fine performance against Parma, Cristian Zapata also gave his verdict on the Rossoneri’s performance:

We didn’t play well today. We wanted to win but we didn’t manage to. We took the lead but then failed to protect Castillejo’s goal. We conceded from a set-piece and we should’ve done better in the wall. We didn’t have the necessary ruthlessness today and it’s a shame because they would’ve been three vital points. We must prepare in a better fashion for these matches, particularly mentally because we’re fighting for something important. I was a bit tired at the end, it was a good battle with Gervinho. I’m pleased with how I dealt with him. We still have the chance to qualify for the Champions League but we must improve. Another crucial match awaits us against Lazio and it will be another battle.
