AC MILAN 1966/67 ROSTER

SERIE A

On the pitch and in the boardroom, there were plenty of changes for the 1966/67 season. AC Milan, under new Chairman Luigi Carraro, decided to entrust the management of the team to Arturo Silvestri, himself a former AC Milan defender. The first moves in the transfer market involved the defence of the Rossoneri lineup: Cesare Maldini departed the Club, while reinforcements were brought in the shape of Rosato and Anquilletti. But 1966 was also the year that the Club moved its HQ to Via Filippo Turati. The league was an arduous and challenging affair from the start, and the Rossoneri would find greater satisfaction in cup football. Too many draws - 15 - halted AC Milan's ambitions in Serie A as they finished eighth, and also got knocked out of the Mitropa Cup in the Round of 16.

COPPA ITALIA

It was another story in the Coppa Italia, however. The Rossoneri, in order, got past Pisa, Modena, Torino, Lecco and Juventus - the latter after extra time - to reach the final. A lone Amarildo goal in Rome was enough to beat Padova (1-0) and kickstart the celebrations. Gianni Rivera, captain and top scorer in the competition that season with seven goals, hoisted the cup to the sky for the first time in the Club's history. The title win also saw the Rossoneri qualify for the Cup Winners' Cup the following season.
