Determined to put the disappointing end to the previous season behind them, AC Milan got to work immediately. Within a week of the final matchday of the 2024/25 Serie A campaign, the Club announced the appointment of Igli Tare as Sporting Director and the return of Massimiliano Allegri as Head Coach, eleven years after the three-year spell that had delivered the Rossoneri's 18th Scudetto. The summer transfer window brought reinforcements across every area of the squad, with Luka Modrić undoubtedly the standout arrival, fulfilling his boyhood dream of wearing the Rossoneri shirt. After the opening-day defeat to Cremonese, the Club further strengthened the squad: in addition to the summer arrivals of Athekame, De Winter, Estupiñán and Ricci, Odogu and French internationals Christopher Nkunku and Adrien Rabiot also joined.
The team's response to the defeat against the Grigiorossi was immediate. Four consecutive victories - highlighted by a 2-1 win over reigning champions Napoli - lifted AC Milan to the top end of the table. They remained firmly in the title race, with narrow victories over Roma and Inter helping the Rossoneri reach 42 points by the halfway stage of the season, while extending their unbeaten league run to 24 matches, one of the longest streaks in the Club's Serie A history. Back-to-back victories over Cremonese and Inter at the beginning of March raised hopes of an ambitious finish, but the final ten matchdays proved costly. A series of defeats derailed AC Milan's push for a Champions League place. The Rossoneri finished the campaign on 70 points, securing a return to European competition, but fifth place was only enough to qualify for the UEFA Europa League, which also brought both the coaching and sporting management spells to an end.
The Club fared no better in the other competitions. In the Coppa Italia, after overcoming Bari and Lecce in the previous rounds, AC Milan were eliminated by Lazio in the Round of 16, with the Biancocelesti eventually reaching the final. In the Supercoppa Italiana, meanwhile, the Rossoneri's run ended in the semi-finals with defeat to Napoli, who went on to lift the trophy.
