    Biography

    RÚBEN AMORIM'S PLAYING CAREER

Born in 1985, Rúben Amorim developed as a footballer between Benfica and Belenenses, making his Primeira Liga debut on 14 December 2003 with a 2–0 victory over Club Alverca. He spent five top-level seasons in Belém before returning to Benfica in 2008, where he reunited with coach Jorge Jesus, who became a key figure and a major influence on Amorim’s future managerial career. He also represented Braga as a player, as well as Al Wakrah and the Portuguese national team, featuring at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. In April 2017, while still under contract with Benfica, he decided to retire at the age of 32.

RÚBEN AMORIM'S COACHING CAREER AND BIOGRAPHY

His coaching career began in 2018 in Portugal’s third division with Casa Pia. In 2019 he moved to Braga B, still in Liga 3, but after three months he was promoted to the first team. In January 2020 he won his first trophy, the Portuguese League Cup, beating Porto 1–0 in the final. His success at Braga earned him a move to Sporting CP, guiding the club to their first league title since 2002. His trophy collection expanded to include two League Cups, one Super Cup, and another Portuguese league title (2023/24). In November 2024, he became manager of Manchester United, leading them to the Europa League final in May 2025. His spell with the Red Devils ended in January 2026, leading to a move to the Rossoneri.
