Alexis Saelemaekers was born in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Belgium on 27 June 1999. He emerged as a right-back, before moving further up the pitch, though he is categorised by many as a player who can feature anywhere on the wing. This is due to his ability to play quickly and cover lots of ground, meaning his work is not limited to the attacking phase.
Raised in the youth sector of Anderlecht, he made his debut for The Purple & White on 16 February 2018, amassing 64 appearances in almost two years, topped off by two goals and eleven assists. He arrived at AC Milan at the end of the 2019/20 winter transfer market, gradually rising through the ranks of Coach Pioli's midfield.
In a season and a half with the Rossoneri, he has made 55 appearances across various competitions, with four goals and eight assists to his name. His performances with AC Milan also earned Alexis his first call-up to the Belgian National team, which came on 8 October 2020 during a friendly in Brussels against Ivory Coast.
