Christopher Nkunku was born in Lagny-sur-Marne, France, on 14 November 1997 and developed at the Paris Saint-Germain Academy (in the youth sides he was a teammate of Mike Maignan, while in the first team he also shared the dressing room with Zlatan Ibrahimović): he made his professional debut on 8 December 2015 in the Champions League match against Shakhtar, made his first start in March 2016 and the following year also scored his first league goal. Across four seasons with PSG he made 55 official appearances with 8 goals and won a great deal: three Ligue 1 titles, three French Super Cups, two French Cups and two League Cups. In July 2019 he moved to Germany with Leipzig, where Nagelsmann used him as an attacking winger after his playmaker role in Paris.
He hit his peak in 2021/22, when he was named the season's best player in the Bundesliga - 20 goals in 34 appearances - and reached double figures in European goals between the Champions League and Europa League, also breaking into the France senior squad. In his four years at Leipzig he won the German Cup twice and ended with 70 goals (in 2022/23 he was the joint Bundesliga top scorer alongside Niclas Füllkrug) in 172 appearances. In the summer of 2023 he joined Chelsea and, after a first season with limited game time due to injury, in his second English year he contributed to the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup wins with 14 goals in 39 total appearances. He moved to Italy and to AC Milan in August 2025, ending his first Rossonero season with 8 goals in 35 appearances. After progressing through the France youth sides, including the 2017 Under-20 World Cup, by June 2026 he had 18 caps and 2 goals with the senior national team.
