At AC Milan since:2017

Matteo Gabbia was born in Busto Arsizio on 21 October 1999. He joined the club as a schoolboy player in 2012 and was placed in the Giovanissimi Regionali category. He got his first chance in the first team against KF Shkëndija in a Europa League play-off tie on 24 August 2017. After playing for the Primavera squad, he was loaned out to Serie C side Lucchese in 2018/19 before making his return.

In the Rossoneri shirt, he has shown himself to be a solid alternative in defence, particularly in 2019/20 and 2020/21, two seasons where he was often called upon. He was part of the squad that won the 19th Scudetto in AC Milan's history in 2021/22, but his top-level career truly took off after a short yet significant loan spell at Villarreal, where he made 13 appearances in six months across La Liga and the Europa League. Matteo was called back in January to cover for a series of injuries in the squad, and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Rossoneri defence. One memorable moment was his decisive goal in the derby victory in September 2024. By the end of the 2024/25 season, which also saw him sign a contract extension, he had made a total of 112 appearances for the First Team, scoring six goals.

After turning 14, Matteo was consistently included in the Italy youth setup. He reached the final of the European Under-19 Championship in 2018 and captained the side at the Under-20 World Cup a year later, before ending his experiences with the Azzurrini at the 2021 Under-21 Euros. He received his first call-up to the senior national team in October 2024, though he didn't make his debut then.
