Pervis Josue Estupiñan Tenorio was born in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, on 21 January 1998. After his first footballing steps with El Nacional, he joined the youth academy of LDU Quito at the age of 11, making his professional debut in 2015 and appearing in both the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. In the summer of 2016, he was signed by Udinese, who loaned him to Granada. In Spain, Pervis split his time between the first team and the reserves of the Andalusian club, making a total of 23 appearances and scoring twice. In 2017, he signed for Watford, who kept him in Spain on loan for the next three seasons with Almería, Mallorca, and Osasuna. With the latter, he made his La Liga debut after two strong campaigns in the second tier.
His career took off in 2020/21 when Villarreal decided to give Estupiñan a chance. Across two seasons, he became a regular, making 74 appearances in all competitions, and played a key role in winning the 2021 Europa League (also featuring in the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea) and in the 2021/22 Champions League run that took Unai Emery's side to the semi-finals against Liverpool. A move to England seemed destined for Estupinan as in the summer of 2022 he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. With the Seagulls, he made 104 appearances and scored five goals over three seasons before his move to AC Milan.
His international career with Ecuador is equally noteworthy. After representing the Under-17 and Under-20 sides, he made his senior debut in October 2019. He has featured in the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and as of June 2025 has earned 48 caps and scored four goals for La Tricolor.
