Originally from Foča, a small town in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rade began his footballing career with his local football squad, Sutjeska Foča, with whom he made his first-team debut. He then moved to Serbia to play for Donji Srem and the Bosnian talent played more than 50 games with compelling performances.
After a brief spell at Borac Čačak, a team that always plays in the Serbian league, he was signed by Marco Giampaolo's Empoli, marking his Serie A debut. His trajectory has constantly been upwards, reaching his peak during the 2018/19 season, when he scored five goals and made seven assists. His transfer to AC Milan was made official in the summer of 2019.
In his first two seasons with the Rossoneri, he made 56 appearances in all competitions with two goals, both in 2020/21. He also scored two goals for the Bosnian National Team and has represented them 21 times.
