Zachary Athekame was born in Geneva on 13 December 2004 and developed as a footballer at the youth academies of Servette and Meyrin, standing out as a dynamic and athletic full-back. In the summer of 2022 it was Neuchâtel Xamax who placed their trust in him, and over two seasons in the Swiss second division he made more than 50 appearances with a healthy tally of goals (4) and assists (3).

He stepped up a level in 2024 when he was signed by Young Boys: with the Bern club he found plenty of game time (47 appearances across all competitions) and also made his Champions League debut, facing the likes of Barcelona, Inter and Atalanta. His steady growth has also been rewarded with national-team call-ups: by June 2026 he had 17 caps for the Switzerland Under-21s and had already been called up - though without yet making his debut - to the senior side. A positive first season with the AC Milan shirt, where he arrived in the summer of 2025: 29 appearances across all competitions, with two important goals against Pisa and Genoa.
