Emma Koivisto was born in Helsinki on September 25, 1994, and came through the ranks at SAPA and HJK, the club with which she debuted in the Naisten Liiga, Finland's top flight, in 2010. After three excellent seasons in the top division (7 goals in 61 appearances), she moved to FC Honka in 2013, where she spent five seasons, combining them with a college career in the United States with the Florida State Seminoles. In 2018 she left Finland for Sweden and BK Häcken, where she played until 2020: important seasons that went beyond the numbers (10 goals in 75 appearances), as they gave her her first taste of the Women's Champions League. In the winter of 2020 she moved to England, spending three and a half seasons between Brighton (4 goals in 38 games) and Liverpool (51 appearances and 4 goals over two years), a prelude to her arrival at AC Milan in the summer of 2024. Her first season in Italy was outstanding: Emma established herself as one of the best fullbacks in the league, finishing with 28 total appearances and 2 league goals, in wins over Roma and Fiorentina. Her second season was no different, as she remained the first-choice right back in a back four, with 27 total appearances and one goal. Koivisto has also been a key figure for the Finland women's national team since her 2012 debut: as of July 2025 she had 112 official caps and 7 goals, including appearances at EURO 2022 and EURO 2025.
