Sara Kanutte Fornes was born in Aukra on December 1, 2001, and came through the ranks at Træff and Gossen. She went on to play for Trondheims-Ørn and Rosenborg in her native Norway (71 appearances and 21 goals over three seasons, including her first taste of the Women's Champions League), before moving to Sweden, where she played for Hammarby (11 goals in 22 games), IFK Norrköping (11 goals in 27 appearances) and Malmö FF. It was at Malmö, in 2025, that she enjoyed her most prolific season (17 goals in 25 games), leading the newly promoted side to a third-place finish. Midway through the 2026 season she left Sweden to join AC Milan, signing with the Rossonere through 2029.
