A charismatic star, Juan Alberto Schiaffino established himself as the great leader of Peñarol, before moving, thanks to his fellow countryman and former Milan player Héctor Puricelli, to AC Milan in 1954. Author of the first of the two shocking goals scored by Uruguay at the Maracaná stadium in the 1950 World Cup Final, he won with Milan 3 league titles, but missed out on the 1958 European Champion Club’s Cup to Di Stefano’s Real Madrid. On that occasion “Pepe” scored the first goal of the game.
