Yesterday evening, Asmir Begović became the fourth AC Milan goalkeeper to play for the Club this season. He thus followed in the footsteps of Pepe Reina, who saved a last-minute penalty in the Rossoneri’s 2-1 win away to Genoa, Antonio Donnarumma, who was selected for the Coppa Italia clash against Spal, and Gigio, who has been the regular starter between the sticks.

At the beginning of the second half, Gigio Donnarumma was forced off the pitch. The Rossoneri goalkeeper had taken a blow to his foot in the first half and was unable to continue. At first, the Italian shot-stopper tried to tough it out, but the pain was too much and he eventually asked to be substituted. The man who replaced him was Begović, who came on to make his AC Milan debut.

After taking to the pitch, the Bosnian goalkeeper performed well in Florence and almost saved Pulgar’s equaliser from the penalty spot. His late stop to deny Caceres was particularly impressive. Begović, who, among others, has played for Ipswich, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Quarabag during his career, is a good man to have in the changing room. He’s someone who every member of the team can comfortably approach.

After arriving at Milanello in January following Pepe Reina’s move to Aston Villa, Begović has always trained with dedication, helping him forge a good working relationship with Gigi Turci and his fellow goalkeepers very quickly.
