KYVÅG AND KAMCZYK LEAD THE ROSSONERE TO A 2‑1 WIN OVER COMO

AC Milan claimed their first win of the season, beating Como 1907 on Matchday 2 of the Serie A Women's Cup to stay in the fight for a place in the next round. The 2-1 victory at the PUMA House of Football was thanks to goals from Thea Kyvåg and Ewelina Kamczyk (with Wullaert's penalty briefly bringing Como level), securing a well-deserved win for the Rossonere. They put in a determined and hard-working display. Aside from an early spell in the second half when Como stepped up the pressure, Bakker's side were in control throughout the 90 minutes.
There were plenty of standout performers, with Sandra Estévez particularly impressive between the sticks. The Spanish goalkeeper made some excellent saves during the Rossonere's most challenging spell and also looked confident when dealing with aerial balls. It was a confident and committed performance from the team, earning applause all round and leaving us in control of our own destiny in the first competition of the season. That's because Sunday's head-to-head clash with Juventus in Biella (kick-off scheduled for 12:30 CEST, live on Sky Sports and NOW) will decide who secures a spot in the semi-finals.

Aside from a fairly harmless effort from visiting captain Čonč (former AC Milan player) in the second minute, the opening 15 minutes passed without any real threat. The Rossonere gradually grew into the game and, after two chances for Kyvåg in the 16th minute (a left-footed effort denied by Durante) and the 17th minute (a right-footed shot that went wide), the third time was the charm for the Norwegian. She opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a left-footed finish, after Soffia's assist and beating Como's goalkeeper to the ball. With AC Milan now in the lead, the Rossonere continued to press, creating another two chances through Grimshaw in the 27th minute and Kyvåg again in the 36th. The final chance of the first half fell to Keijzer late into added time, forcing Durante to save her long-range left-footed effort.
The visitors got off to a more promising start in the second half with Wullaert firing wide from a strong position in the 47th minute. There was another chance for the former Inter captain just two minutes later, but her close-range effort was saved thanks to Estévez's impressive reflexes as she held onto the ball. The game grew in intensity and pace, and in the 52nd minute, Soffia's header from a corner was just a little too wide. Como continued to push, and after Estévez and Koivisto had denied two chances, Wullaert levelled the score from the spot in the 56th minute. AC Milan responded well, creating another chance from a corner but Koivisto's shot went narrowly wide. Coach Bakker looked to change the game with substitutions, and Kamczyk made an instant impact, breaking through in the 70th minute and finding the net with an unstoppable left-footed finish. The match stayed intense in the final 20 minutes, but there were not many clear chances. The Rossonere's most promising opportunity came from Sesay in added time. The Rossonere ended the game with a victory!

"It's a very important win because it proves that we know how to hold onto a lead, and it's a result that gives us confidence," said Angelica Soffia, who will miss the trip to Biella due to being suspended. "We're a great, close-knit group. After three years of working with the coach, we've built an understandings that give us a lot of confidence and trust in each other, and everyone shows it, from those who start to those who come off the bench, like Kamczyk, who scored. Everyone gives it their all. We'll have to show that same confidence and belief again next Sunday."
"The most important thing today was to win," coach Bakker said. "I think we played well in the first half, creating a lot of chances, and scoring an extra one would have made our second half easier. After their penalty, we showed we were willing to fight, and it was great to see the energy brought on by the substitutes. I'm happy with the result but I think we can improve by making better decisions with the ball. The team has quality and is fit right now; there is healthy competition within the squad. Our goal is to win the next game, and we will work hard and prepare in the best possible way."
